Cmb Polarization Due to Scattering in Clusters
نویسنده
چکیده
Scattering of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) in clusters of galaxies polarizes the radiation. We explore several polarization components which have their origin in the kinematic quadrupole moments induced by the motion of the scattering electrons, either directed or random. Polarization levels and patterns are determined in a cluster simulated by the hydrodynamical Enzo code. We find that polarization signals can be as high as ∼ 1μK, a level that may be detectable by upcoming CMB experiments.

The measurement of the polarization of cosmic microwave background (CMB) provides considerable useful information about different physical phenomena at the last scattering surface. The polarization of CMB is due to Compton scattering. In this work, we consider the parity violation of Compton scattering. Then we insert the new amplitude into the quantum Boltzmann equation and show that the forwa...

Mapping CMB polarization is an essential ingredient of current cosmological research. Particularly challenging is the measurement of an extremely weak B-mode polarization that can potentially yield unique insight on inflation. Achieving this objective requires very precise measurements of the secondary polarization components on both large and small angular scales. Scattering of the CMB in gala...

The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) physics can be used to constrain the dark energy dynamics: B modes of the polarization of the diffuse CMB emission as well as the polarized signal towards clusters of galaxies are sensitive to the Hubble expansion rate and thus the dark energy abundance in the early stage of cosmic acceleration. The first effect is sourced by gravitational lensing of large ...

We derive analytic expressions for the leading-order corrections to the polarization induced in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) due to scattering off hot electrons in galaxy clusters along the line of sight. For a thermal distribution of electrons with kinetic temperature kBTe ∼ 10 keV and bulk peculiar velocity V ∼ 1000 kms , the dominant corrections to the polarization induced by the pr...

Scattering of the temperature anisotropy quadrupole by free electrons in galaxy clusters leads to a secondary polarization signal in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) fluctuations. At low redshifts, the temperature quadrupole contains a significant contribution from the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect associated with the growth of density fluctuations. Using polarization data from a sam...
